This year's 19th annual public reading of the names of Holocaust victims, "Yom HaShoah", will take place on 6 May 2024. The names of victims of Nazi persecution will be read in 31 cities across the Czech Republic, commemorating the fate of those who were murdered during the Second World War.
I'm not crying anymore and neither should you, wrote seven-year-old Jana in a letter to her mother. She and her Jewish father were interned in the Hagibor camp in 1944 and later in Terezín, while her non-Jewish mother and younger brother went into hiding.
The Institute of the Terezín Initiative is organising the nationwide reading, and this year's partners are the Museum of Romani Culture in Brno and the Sinti and Roma Centre in Prague.
In Prague, the reading will take place on Mariánské náměstí, by the Terezka fountain, from 14:00 to 17:00. Information on other cities and associated events will be published on our Facebook page in the next couple of days. You can sign up for those in each city.
The Reading of the Names is held under the auspices of the Embassy of the State of Israel in the Czech Republic and with the financial support of the Holocaust Victims Foundation and the City of Prague. We are able to organize the public reading of the names of the victims thanks in no small part to your support through Darujme.cz.
