Public Reading of the Holocaust Victims' Names - Yom Ha-Shoah 2021

We would like to invite you to partake in the 16th edition of the Public Reading of the Holocaust Victims' Names - Yom Ha-Shoah on April 8, 2021 from 2 pm to 5 pm.

As in the years before, we participate with our reading of names in the honouring of the heroes and victims of the Holocaust, called Yom Hazikaron laShoah ve-laG'vurah (Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day) that reminds us of the day the Jewish prisoners of the Warsaw Ghetto stood up against their oppressors. As in the years before, we will read out the names of those persecuted and killed by the Nazis during WWII just because of their origin.

Unfortunately, like in the last year, we will only be able to meet online.

The courage and heroism of the prisoners of the Warsaw ghetto and all others, who decided to defend their rights and honour just as the rights and honour of all others oppressed and humiliated are inspiring for us until today. Let us read the names of the murdered together and create a symbolic grave and memorial for them.

This year, we would like to invite you to not only participate actively in the reading of names, but, if you like, to compile your own list of names that you wish to read. It`s not at all complicated to do so, since you find all information necessary in our database of victims at holocaust.cz. We will guide you through the preparation of a list and will be happy to discuss all questions concerning the compilation of a list that you might have.

What are the first steps if I want to take part in the reading of names?

To participate in the reading of names in our livestream on April 8 from 2 pm to 5 pm, you can register.

In case you encounter any complication during the registration, please contact us at jomhasoa@terezinstudies.cz and we will take care of existing problems individually.

How is this year`s reading of names online organized?

This year, there are different possible ways of participating in the public reading of names of victims of the holocaust:

You can register to read names as a part of our Zoom conference that will be streamed live on our Facebook-channel and our website on April 8 from 2 pm to 5 pm. In order to participate actively in this livestream, a registration is necessary until March 21 or until all slots are taken. After registration, you will receive detailed information by email.

You can create your own video or audio and share the clip on April 8 either on your own social media profile or directly on our Facebook-site www.facebook.com/jomhasoa. You can also send the file by email to jomhasoa@terezinstudies.cz. Clips that we will receive until March 26 will be included into the livestream. If you decide to share your clip individually, don’t forget to add the hashtag #ctujmenanajomhasoa.

You can watch the reading online by yourself or those close to you and commemorate the victims of the holocaust individually.
